Reflextion 10

5.      Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:
d.       Contribute to the effectiveness, vitality, and self-renewal of the teaching profession and of their school and community.

In my MA 310 class I had to develop a research project that would use LabPro software. In this project I explored the boiling points of water in accordance with different Wives Tales, such as hot water takes longer to boil. This project meets standard 5d because it looks at slopes and this activity can be used in a classroom to help promote student learning and understanding of slopes. In a literature review of math teaching journals there seems to be a gap in information about how to teach slopes. By bringing forward an interesting way to teach slopes I am contributing to the  self-renewal of the teaching profession.  The skills I learned in this project is how to adapt a college lesson to fit a basic math concept. I the future I would like to find more hands-on experiments to teach math.

5.      Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
Teachers continuously improve their professional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership in their school and professional community by promoting and demonstrating the effective use of digital tools and resources. Teachers:
b.       Exhibit leadership by demonstrating a vision of technology infusion, participating in shared decision making and community building, and developing the leadership and technology skills of others;

For my MA 310 I had to create a video about how to find angles that would work well in a kaleidoscope. This activity meets the standard for 5b because the YouTube video shows the infusion of technology in a simple math problem and since the video is posted on YouTube if watching it can promote the technology skills of others.The skills I learned in making this video are to to collaborate with others on a technology project with others and how to use technology to help with math modeling. In the future I will look into making for videos to show math concepts.

4.      Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices. Teachers:
c.       Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information;

To promote digital etiquette I have allowed comments to be posted on my website. This will allow for students to create an online community to express frustration with homework and help one another.  This meets standard 4c because it promotes an environment where responsible social interactions are required. The skills I have learned in creating this environment is how to monitor posts and create a place for students to post information. In the future I would like to look into creating private chat spaces for my students rather than just being able to place comments on a preexisting web-page I have created.

2.      Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessment incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the NETS•S. Teachers:
d.       Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching

The Excel gradebook created in class allows the teacher to look at grades in a variety of ways. It also allows the teacher to see a breakdown of grades for each assignment. This exercise taught me how to use excel in a variety of ways and link pages within the excel file. This activity meets the standards for 2d because it shows a breakdown of the grades for the students and will allow the teacher to learn from the grades given. This can allows the teacher to see if their test way too difficult or they need to review the information. Int he future I would adapt this Excel document to fit my classroom needs.

1.      Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
Teachers use their knowledge of subject matter, teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity, and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teachers:
b.       Engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources;

My Web Quest allows students to explore historical math concepts without just having the students go from link to link. The Web Quest meets Standard 1b because the Web Quest engages students in a real world application of math and history which is explore the history of math and with the way my quest is set up some websites lead to dead end that may lead to new knowledge even if it is not the desired information. This Web Quest has given me the skills to use the internet in my classroom. In the future IO would like to create more Web Quests to teach or review key math concepts.
